I cannot understand some landowners around here, and other parts of the country, as soon as September comes they are out with the flails.
Around here some have already reduced their hedges down to low shaved atrocities. We wonder why the bird population in Britain is in decline.
Every berry, nut or seed has been thrashed out of a flailed hedge just as they are coming to their full ripeness. Wildlife are so dependant on the sugars in ripe foods to build up their fat stores for the lean months of Winter.
It makes you wonder how many of these people tut tut at the destruction of the rain forest, just because it is some other back yard. They just cannot seem to grasp that the miles of hedgerows are our forests and we are responsible for proper maintenance of them.
