18th August 2009

Blackberries (Rubus fruticosus) hang and ripen in the hedge. It will be a shorter season for them this year with all the wet weather. There are usually two flushes of Blackberries to pick. The first flush starts in around July and is the better flavoured berries and sweeter. The second flush in August-September are okay, but if the weather is cool and wet, they lack flavour and sweetness.
